Azimjan Askarov

Human rights defender Azimjan Askarov is currently serving life imprisonment after an unfair trial on charges that AI believes have been fabricated in an attempt to stop his legitimate human rights work. AI adopted him a prisoner of conscience and calls for his release. While in detention, he has reportedly been subjected to torture and ill-treatment; he is in a poor state of health. His relatives and legal representatives have been harassed and assaulted for supporting him.
