Dr Mohammed al-Roken is a human rights lawyer serving a 10-year prison sentence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He is a long-time Amnesty International supporter, a member of the International Bar Association, and was president of the UAE’s Jurists Association before it was arbitrarily dissolved in April 2011. He has written several books on human rights, counterterrorism laws and freedom of expression, holds a PhD in Constitutional Law, and has acted as legal counsel in high-profile human rights cases in the UAE.
