Ebrahim Ahmed Radi al-Moqdad
Bahrain
Two teenage boys, Jehad Sadeq Aziz Salman and Ebrahim Ahmed Radi al-Moqdad, were sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment on 4 April 2013. They were arrested on 23 July 2012 during an anti-government protest in a suburb of the capital, Manama, called Bilad al-Qadeem. According to one of the children’s lawyers their conviction was based on "confessions" they had been forced to sign without the presence of a lawyer or family member, and which they retractedduring the trial. Jehad Sadeq Aziz Salman and Ebrahim Ahmed Radi al-Moqdad were tried as adults despite being under theage of 18. The authorities must quash the two boys’ convictions and order a retrial in a court that adheres to the principle that all children must be tried according to the rules of juvenile justice.
