Hakamada Iwao

Hakamada Iwao has been on death row since 1968. He was convicted after an unfair trial of the 1966 murder of the boss of the factory where he worked, and the man's wife and two children. Update 2014: On 27 March, the Shizuoka District Court ordered Hakamada's release, suspended the death sentence, and granted him a retrial. Update Dec. 2015: Tokyo High Courtis currently examining whether to grant Hakamada a retrial.
